This fine gem of an apartment was indeed a rare real estate find. Situated in the heart of Kypseli, this spacious penthouse with its intact, polished, hardwood floors and original wood paneling, was practically ready to move into.
This was a family owned building, commissioned and built by the original owner for himself and his offspring in the early sixties. One can tell by the fine use of high quality materials and sound structure that buildings of this type were built with special care, in comparison to the typical Athenian “polikatikia”.
Two large terraces, one flanking the front of the apartment on the street side, the other towards the back, offer an extension to the outside.
To a large part, together with the client we chose to respect the well preserved charm of the space, by intervening mainly in the kitchen. Here the original terrazzo floor was exposed and the dividing wall between the two rooms was demolished to create a long kitchen counter. A vintage marble sink was re-introduced into the composition creating a modern yet traditional feel.
One of the bathrooms which originally consisted of a bathtub, was turned into a walk-in shower and the marble-clad walls were treated with a plaster technique "patiti tsimentokonia".
