This two-storey research & design documentation institute is located in Kreuzberg and part of a new building development. It houses offices on the ground level & a main showroom and library on the upper level.
The idea was to create a serene backdrop for the presentation of design objects, furniture and books. These range mainly from the periods of Art Nouveau to Bauhaus and early Modernism. Therefore, white lacquered surfaces and glass are the predominant materials. Display cases of different shapes and sizes accentuate the various rooms, while at the same time, creating transitions and partitions between the spaces.
The library on the upper level is home to approximately thirty thousand books, some of rare editions. As a result, security and light intensity were important issues when designing the glass display cases.
